A group of Taiwan youths has embarked on a tour in Guangdong province that began from Jinan University in Guangzhou on Oct 9, participating in various activities such as studying, visiting sites, as well as cultural experiences and sharing.
The event, organized by the Guangdong Provincial Association for the Promotion of Exchanges across the Taiwan Straits, has launched three tour routes for the event, allowing Taiwan youths to get a close look at local cultural elements such as Maritime Silk Road culture and Zen culture.
Jheng Ming-Jia, chairman of Taiwan Youth Home in Guangzhou, said that the event is an excellent activity for Taiwan youth, especially those who are coming to the Chinese mainland for the first time, to learn more about local culture in Guangdong province and carry out mutual communication.
Liou Jing Syuan, a student from Jinan University, said that she is very interested in the culture of the Chinese mainland, especially in Guangdong, and that she hopes to learn more about the province's companies and culture during the tour.
Currently, Guangdong province has seen a total of more than 25,000 Taiwan-related marriages and over 200,000 Taiwan compatriots living in the province, including about 8,000 college students.
Starting from 2016, Guangdong has received more than 5,500 Taiwan youths seeking internships, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities. The communication activities held for youths from both sides of the Straits have attracted over 8,600 Taiwan youths.
