The Royal Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou held a special tree-planting activity on May 4 in Nansha, Guangzhou to celebrate the coronation of the country's King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

More than 50 people, including staff members at the Royal Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways International, and Thai nationals working and living in Guangzhou, participated in the event at Guangzhou's Nansha Bird Park.

Nansha Bird Park is home to a wildlife rescue center of the Guangdong Provincial Forestry Department and is also the venue of the Guangzhou Nansha Southeast Asia Bamboo Culture Festival. The Royal Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou specifically chose the park to host the event marking the Thai King's coronation ceremony.

Apart from planting trees, the consulate general also held talks with the Guangzhou park on building the China-Thailand Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubator and hosting the 2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area-ASEAN International Colleges and Universities Construction Competition.

The two parties hoped to boost China-Thailand in-depth exchanges, friendship opportunities and economic and trade cooperation through artistic and cultural exchanges, as well as youth communications.

Last year, the 2018 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area-ASEAN International Colleges and Universities Construction Competition was held at Nansha Bird Park, attracting many student groups from Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong to test their skills on building with bamboo. A number of their works had been selected to be displayed at the park, which have become a unique feature of the park.

This year's event will see participation from over a dozen universities from the Greater Bay Area, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan, and the finals will be held at Nansha Bird Park in November.
