Foreigners volunteer at Guangzhou railway station during travel rush

A total of 19 foreigners are volunteering at Guangzhou South Railway Station during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, which began on Jan 21.

The volunteers are students from Guangzhou universities hailing from countries such as Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Jamaica. They can all speak their own native languages in addition to English and Chinese, and will offer translation services and answer questions for passengers.

Xie Li, a student from the South China University of Technology, comes from Kyrgyzstan and can speak both Russian and Turkish. She and her peers are divided into three groups and serve in shifts at the train station.

Guangzhou South Railway Station is the largest high-speed railway station in Asia. As one of the most important transportation hubs in South China, the station processes around 500,000 passengers daily during Spring Festival, and sometimes receives over 700,000 people in a single day.
