Alipay makes Guangzhou-Shenzhen rail travel easier

eguangzhou.gov.cn | Updated:2019-01-22

Travelling between Guangzhou and Shenzhen by rail has become much easier, as passengers can now board their train by simply swiping their Alipay QR code, rather than using a ticket and ID card.

The Chinese leading third-party online payment platform Alipay announced on Jan 21 that it has been connected to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen intercity train ticketing system.

On the day of their departure, passengers can use the Alipay QR code to enter their destination, without having to queue up at a window or in front of a vending machine to buy tickets. People also no longer need to buy tickets online in advance, nor do they need to worry about forgetting their IDs.

Once a passenger successfully enters the station, a text message will be sent to him or her, providing the train and seat number of the next train heading to the passenger's destination.

Before, passengers would be charged the full amount of a second-class seat and after arriving. They would be charged the actual fare depending on their destination.

Swiping a QR code takes only 3 seconds, saving an average of 15 minutes per passenger, as people no longer have to buy tickets online and pick them up using their ID.
