The Canton Tower Run Up, one of Guangzhou's most famous sports events in which participants compete against each other while running up the city's iconic Canton Tower, is welcoming its fifth run on Dec 2.

The upcoming event will consist of a men's, women's and group categories, with 1,500 runners contending to become the fastest climber of the tower's 112 floors and 2,580 stairs.
The top three runners in each group will receive 6,000 yuan ($863), 3,000 yuan and 1,500 yuan in cash prizes, and a special award will be set up this year for anyone who breaks the record, which currently stands at 14 minutes and 36 seconds.

Registration for the contest has been officially launched and will close on Nov 20. For more information, please follow the WeChat account Gztdggks123.
This year's activity will continue to be a social welfare event. The organizing committee will team up with Guangzhou Charity Association to launch a project offering education grants to the children of migrant workers. Ten percent of the registration fees of all runners will be donated to a poverty-stricken village in Yangshan county, Qingyuan city.
