The city of Guangzhou will raise the bar on auto emissions starting from March 1, 2019, according to news released by the city's environment protection bureau on Nov 11.
The sales of new vehicles that do not meet the National VI emission standards will be banned in the city and second-hand vehicles from outside the city with National V emission standards or below will be unable to register in Guangzhou.
The National VI emission standards, which are tougher than the old Euro 6 regulations, are expected to help reduce emissions and ensure better air quality in Guangzhou.
The southern Chinese city fully implemented the supply of National VI standard diesel in September this year, and plans to fully supply the national VI standard gasoline from Dec 1 in order to provide sufficient fuel support for the implementation of National VI emission standards.
