Guangzhou locals took the long hike up Baiyun Mountain on Oct 16 to enjoy the beautiful night views of Guangzhou and celebrate the Double Ninth Festival.

Falling on the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese calendar, on this special day it is customary to climb a mountain and drink chrysantheum liquor while wearing the zhuyu, or cornus officinalis to protect oneself from danger. Both chrysantheum and zhuyu are considered to have cleansing qualities and are used on other occasions to air out houses and cure illnesses.
