A delegation led by Macao SAR Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai-on paid a visit to Guangzhou on June 21, eyeing more cooperation with the southern Chinese city in sci-tech innovations, tourism and trade.

During their stay, the chief executive met with Ren Xuefeng, Party chief of Guangzhou and Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou.

Ren introduced the economic and social development of Guangzhou to the delegation, saying that the city has been firmly implementing a new development concept and striving to build a modern industrial system led by the IAB (the next generation of information technology, artificial intelligence, bio-medicine) industries and NEM (new energy, new materials) industries while steadily advancing water, air, and soil pollution prevention and control.

The bond between Guangzhou and Macao is tight and there is good cooperation between the two parties and a large space for future development, said Ren.

"We hope that Guangzhou and Macao will seize major opportunities in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and launch more joint projects in innovative development, finance, professional services, youth innovation and entrepreneurship, and cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries."

According to Fernando, the achievements made in Guangzhou's economic and social development are encouraging. Guangzhou's new experiences in industrial transformation and upgrading, urban construction management, and innovation and entrepreneurship are worthy of study for Macao. He wished to deepen cooperation with Guangzhou to realize diversified development of Macao's economy, and better integrate Macao into the national strategy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The delegation visited iFlytek South China Company, the Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Center and famous Guangzhou attractions including Haixinsha Island and Huacheng Square.
