New measures offer more convenient clearance experience at Guangzhou airport

Updated:2018-05-22

With the T2 Terminal of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport recently becoming fully operational, more than 30,000 passengers depart from or arrive at the new state-of-the-art terminal every day. The local customs department has rolled out a raft of new measures to ensure that passengers get faster, more convenient customs, declaration and transfer services at the terminal.

The T2 Terminal was the first to take smart customs construction and the integration of customs services and entry and exit quarantine and inspection services into consideration during its design period.

At the terminal, a special pre-declaration machine is available for passengers which can guide them in finishing the declaration forms. A total of 12 smart robots also stand by at the terminal passage which are capable of answering questions on some 3, 000 frequently asked questions in mandarin, Cantonese, English and other languages.

To make shopping more convenient for passengers, the airport customs offer more ways for those who exceed tax exemption amounts to pay taxes. Four special checkpoints have also been set up at T1 and T2 terminals of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport where shoppers can get departure tax rebates.

The airport customs also implemented a unique supervision mode for Through Check-in procedures for 59 international airlines. The new supervision pattern enables transfer passengers to conduct one check-in procedure during their journey and get their luggage at their destination.

Moreover, some high technologies including facial recognition and luggage tracking, and an automatic body temperature checking system are also making the airport customs smarter.
