Jingdong, one of the country's largest e-commerce companies, recently opened its first convenience store in South China's Guangzhou, proving a big hit with customers.
"Today's sales have exceeded 40,000 yuan ($6,000) and we still have customers until 11:00 pm," said Ye Tingfeng, the store owner, on the opening day.
The store is located near the entrance of a residential community, which sees heavy foot traffic. It mainly sells food, beverages, cosmetics and general merchandise.
Ye explained that he was a loyal customer of Jingdong and had enough confidence in the brand to open his own store, bringing convenience for people living nearby. To improve sales, Ye has also set aside areas on the second floor where customers can access digital products and financial services. The store also provides parcel collection services.
The Jingdong Convenience Store project is trying to set up innovative and smart stores around the country by teaching their unique management model to owners and providing good quality products at affordable prices.
