A festival of dream birdwood flowers got underway at Tianluhu Park in Huangpu district, Guangzhou, on March 22. 

The five-day festival was held under the banner of "Vigor in Huangpu" and attracted large numbers of visitors.

Dream birdwood flowers are a rare species under national second-level protection. They are famous for their sparrow-like appearance and sweet fragrance. 

According to flower experts, the month-long period around Qingming Festival is the peak blooming period for dream birdwood flowers.

A variety of performances were held at the opening of the festival, including acrobatics and classic face changing, or bian lian. 

Tianluhu Park is the only park in Guangzhou with dream birdwood's. Those wishing to admire the pretty flowers can take buses 449, 346, and 333A.
