On September 1, 2015, the unveiling ceremony of Huangpu district was held, marking the formal launch of the new district in Guangzhou. The previous Huangpu and Luogang districts were combined to form the new Huangpu district, becoming the eastern center of Guangzhou for propelling its development along the Pear River.

The new Huangpu district covers an area of 484.17 square kilometers. By 2020, Huangpu district is expected to gain a gross regional domestic product above 500 billion yuan, a gross industrial output above one trillion yuan and a fiscal income above 1000 billion yuan.

In future, the Huangpu district will make a greater effort to attract investment, technology and talent. By 2020, Huangpu district will draw one hundred projects for headquarter bases, one hundred significant projects and one hundred projects for leading talent, respectively.

Huangpu tops Guangzhou in the number of patents, and is home to 7 out of the top 10 enterprises on patents application in Guangzhou. Huangpu leads in Guangzhou in the amount and profits of high-tech manufacturing enterprises above designated size. It houses 408 high-tech enterprises (30% of Guangzhou) and its high-tech product value reaches 269 billion Yuan (34% of Guangzhou). Moreover, above designed size high-tech enterprises own 1578 invention patents (82% of Guangzhou).
