The Lanzhou Olympic Sports Center, which is being built in Qilihe district, Lanzhou, capital of Northwest China's Gansu province, will open on a trial basis next January.

Upon completion, the center will become the main stadium for the 2022 Provincial Games, as well as a destination for local residents to play sports.

The building's architecture resembles a series of "dancing" flowers. Its five main units -- rose stadium, tulip gymnasium, lily swimming pool, lotus tennis hall, and orchid sports complex -- echo the five Olympic rings and strengthen the spatial integrity and iconicity of the building complex.

The rose stadium can accommodate 60,000 people. It has a 400-meter circular track and a standard football field that can serve large-scale track and field events and football matches.

There are 8,000 seats in the tulip gymnasium. Ice basket conversion technology will enable the venue to hold not only ball games and gymnastics competitions, but also short track speed skating and ice hockey games.

The 3,000-seat lotus tennis hall, which is mainly designed for tennis competitions, will also hold e-sports competitions, fashion shows, conferences and exhibitions at the end of the tennis season.

The lily swimming pool is set to be equipped with complete facilities that can host world-class swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming competitions. Technical means will be used to change the depth of the pools to satisfy different needs.

The orchid sports complex is divided into two sections. One part will be used to provide accommodation for athletes, while the other will serve as a hotel.
