Lanzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone was built in March 1993 and became a national-level economic and technological development zone as approved by the State Council in March 2002.

It consists of six parks with a planning area of 265.32 square kilometers. The Jichangbei high-tech park focuses on electronic information and biomedicine and wants to create a medicine industrial park in western Lanzhou.

Anning Park is developing a headquarters economy, aerospace resources and modern logistics. Other sectors also thrive in the park, including medicine and advanced equipment manufacturing.

Xigu Park centers on modern logistics, modern commerce and export processing. It plans to develop five functions — railway containers, railway ports, bonding, multimodal transport and intelligent land ports and 10 industrial parks including an international comprehensive logistics park.

Honggu Park mainly develops nonferrous metallurgy and environmental protection-related industries. It is home to the 430,000-metric-ton electrolytic aluminum production line of the Lanzhou branch of Aluminum Corp of China.

Gaolan Park focuses on modern logistics and deep processing of featured agricultural products. It has attracted some commerce and logistics projects including three logistics parks and an automobile accessory shop.

Gaolan Ecological Remediation and Industrial Development Demonstration Zone highlights ecological restoration and the development of modern agriculture and aims to build a green ecological industrial system.
