Landmark Achievement: Major UHVDC power line crosses Yellow River successfully
On the afternoon of Dec 24, the ±800kV Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission line from Hami prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to Chongqing successfully crossed the Yellow River from Gansu province, marking the completion of all major crossing operations in the Gansu portion of the project.
The Yellow River crossing point situated on the border of Baiyin and Yuzhong county in Gansu province presents a unique engineering challenge. At an elevation of 1,825 meters and boasting a vertical clearance of 255 meters above the river surface, the complex terrain has posed significant construction challenges.
During the crossing operation, State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company employed advanced construction techniques, including precision drone guidance and tension stringing methods. These approaches ensured that both conductors and ground wires remained elevated throughout the process, guaranteeing construction safety and project quality.
The successful completion of this stringing operation demonstrates the harmonious integration of modern construction technology with the natural environment, providing valuable and replicable experience for similar future projects.
Once operational, the project will transmit over 36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually from Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to Chongqing municipality. This will facilitate the transmission of clean energy from Xinjiang, guarantee national power supply, and contribute to the development of a new power system.
