Gansu sees 244% surge in inbound travel

As Mid-Autumn Festival draws near, Gansu province's tourism market is experiencing another small peak. 

According to the recent 2024 Mid-Autumn holiday travel forecast released by Trip.com, this year's Mid-Autumn tourism market is seeing inbound tourism bookings outpace the summer season. Inbound tourism bookings for Gansu province have increased by 244 percent year-on-year, while Lanzhou has seen a 167 percent year-on-year growth in inbound bookings.

Popular attractions in Gansu during the Mid-Autumn holiday include Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake, the Mogao Caves, Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park, Jiayuguan Pass, Zhagana, Ink Danxia Scenic Area, Pingshanhu Grand Canyon, Gansu Provincial Museum, and the Maijishan Grottoes. 

Major sources of tourists are Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Chongqing. Meanwhile, Gansu residents are traveling to Xi'an, Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Chengdu.

This year, many travelers are opting for more comfortable travel experiences. Trip.com data shows that nearly half of the bookings for the Mid-Autumn holiday are for nearby destinations, a higher proportion than during Dragon Boat Festival.
