Jiayuguan, Gansu province, witnessed a strong rebound in its tourism sector during the recently completed Spring Festival holiday.

In the city's Overhanging Great Wall Scenic Area, many people boarded the beacon towers to take in the magnificent beauty of the desert and the profound history of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).

Overhanging Great Wall, or Xuanbi Changcheng in Chinese, is located about 6.5 kilometers northwest of the famed Jiayuguan Fort. Tilting at 45 degrees, as seen from a distance, its shape resembles a dragon climbing toward the peak.

It was built as an extension of Jiayuguan Fortress with an original length of 1.5 kilometers. Over the centuries, a large section of the wall fell into disrepair, with only 750 meters surviving today.
