Lanzhou Xinya Middle School was founded in 1993 as the first private school in Gansu province since reform and opening-up started in 1978.

After 26 years of development, the school now has 2,159 students and 56 teaching classes, including a nursing center, primary middle and high school classes, art characteristic high school classes, broadcasting and hosting characteristic classes, and Sino-Canadian international high school classes. It has more than 200 faculty members.

Lanzhou Xinya Middle School is also an international school and is involved in many international education cooperation projects. Up to 2008, more than 300 graduates from the school had won admission to the University of Toronto, McMaster University, the University of Waterloo and the University of Alberta and other world-renowned universities.

At the same time, in order to promote friendship and exchanges between the two countries, LOCSS organizes a series of summer camps for students to attend and study at Canadian schools, and many primary and middle school students benefit from these camps.
