With the approach of Qixi, known as Chinese Valentine's Day, a poet reciting activity was held in celebration of the second anniversary of the Xu Zhimo Memorial Museum in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Aug 14.

Hundreds of scholars, poets, writers and volunteers across the country attended the event to commemorate Xu Zhimo (1987-1931), one of China's most renowned romantic poets.

In the 1920s, Xu studied at King's College in Cambridge University. His poem, Farewell to Cambridge, written in 1928 when he made a later visit, is one of his most widely known pieces learned by millions of schoolchildren across China.

"The poems written by Xu represent the traditional Chinese works," said one of the attendants, who hoped that young generations can learn about traditional Chinese culture and create new Chinese poems for a worldwide audience.
