Located in what earlier was the Southern Song ancient kiln district south of West Lake, China’s first ceramics museum built on an actual ancient kiln site was established in 1991. The Southern Song Imperial Kiln was founded by the Song Empire after it moved its capital to Lin’an (modern Hangzhou). The lustrous, elegant celadon porcelain it produced was among the finest in ancient China. The museum displays excavated porcelain objects of the Southern Song Imperial Kiln and its ruins.
