Hangzhou Sports Development Group: Hangzhou Gymnasium
The Hangzhou gymnasium, formerly the Zhejiang gymnasium, has been managed by the Hangzhou sports development group, a subordinate unit of the Sport Bureau of Hangzhou, since 2001. Situated in Tiyuchang Road, a busy street of the city, the gymnasium covers an area of 3.51 hectares, including a more than 25,000 square meter building area and 9,000 square meters of green areas.
The gymnasium was built in 1966 and was a landmark of Hangzhou at that time. It is the only preserved saddle-shaped-cable-structure gymnasium in the world and was listed as one of Hangzhou’s cultural relic unit in December 2013.
The Sport Bureau of Hangzhou has invested 27 million yuan ($4.26 million) to renovate the gymnasium. There are fitness venues and youth training rooms for dance training and squash in building A, and building B is equipped with offices, training rooms for children’s dancing and table tennis. Building C has four badminton courts and four VIP lounges, and is able to hold various competitions, meetings and official functions. Building D is mainly rentable, and is home to companies such as Caitong Securities and Zhejiang Kunlun Sports.
