Honey Lotus Root Stuffed with Glutinous Rice
Honey lotus root stuffed with glutinous rice is a local Hangzhou dessert made from lotus root stuffed with glutinous rice, sweet osmanthus and sugar. The lotus root used in the dish is from West Lake and is the best in China. The dish perfectly combines crispy lotus root, sticky glutinous rice, sweet honey and fragrant osmanthus. It offers a unique flavor.
The recipe is relatively simple but requires some patience to cook. First, cut the head off the lotus and clean its holes. Second, stuff the glutinous rice into the holes and put the root’s head back in case the rice flows out. Then, boil the lotus root with medium fire until it’s brown and cutting it into slices. Finally, steam the lotus root slices with sweet osmanthus and cube sugars until the sugar melts.
