Located in the capital city of East China’s Zhejiang province, Hangzhou, Zhejiang International Studies University (ZISU) is a provincial university which takes foreign languages and literature as its basis and develops multiple disciplines such as literature, economics, management, education, science and art. Its predecessor was the Zhejiang Training School for Middle School Teachers founded in 1955. 

With its campuses of Wensan and Xiaoheshan, the university covers an area of 43 hectares and has a building area of 230,000 square meters. ZISU is equipped with multi-functional modern teaching facilities. The school library has a collection of 912,900 paper books, 108,100 of which are original foreign language books; 542,000 e-books, 222,000 of which are in a foreign language; and 1,044 journals and periodicals, 157 of which are foreign language periodicals. 

ZISU recruits students from 15 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China. It currently has 7,966 full-time students (including international students). With 11 schools and departments, ZISU provides 30 undergraduate majors.

The university has an excellent faculty team of 391 full-time teachers, of whom165 have associate senior titles or above and 180 are doctors.

Zhejiang International Studies University has set up cooperative relationships with more than 80 universities and institutions from over 30 countries and regions such as the United States, Russia, Germany, Spain, France, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Chile and Mexico. It dispatches more than 200 students to study abroad in programs providing mutual recognition of credit and joint awarding of degrees, and meanwhile recruits international students from the regions of North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Central Asia and Africa for short-term and long-term study.
