Introduction:
On July 1, 2005, Hamamatsu absorbed the 11 cities nearby to become the current and expanded city of Hamamatsu, making its civic area the second largest in Japan. It became a city designated by government ordinance on April 1, 2007.
The famous nationwide base for eel cultivation, Lake Hamana, is in the city. Carmakers such as Suzuki, HONDA, motorbikes and musical instrument manufacturers such as Yamaha have all established factories in Hamamatsu. In additional, Hamamatsu is one of the outdoor venues of the famous movie Kikujiro No Natsu directed by Kitano Takeshi.
