City: Agadir City

Country: Morocco

Province: Agadir

Introduction:

Agadir is a major city in mid-southern Morocco. Agadir is located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean near the foot of the Atlas Mountains, just north of the point where the Sus River flows into the ocean. It is a famous tourist city in Morocco and, after Casablanca, the second-largest economic development center in Morocco. The current conurbation of Agadir is actually a combination of four communes, the former town of Agadir city, the urban commune of Anza, the rural town of Ben Sergao and the rural town of Tikiwine.

Three fourths of the city’s buildings were destroyed or severely damaged in an earthquake in 1960, in which two third of the population died. After more than 30 years of reconstruction, Agadir is now a city combining national style and various countries’ architectural methods. It is the largest seaside resort in Morocco -- its many residents and foreign tourists are attracted by the unusually mild year-round climate.
