Workmanship Demonstration Pavilion
Workmanship Demonstration Pavilion, located at the Gongchenqiao Historic Street, is designed to display, promote and develop traditional Chinese workmanship. It is a window demonstrating the soft power culture of Hangzhou city to the world.
The pavilion, occupying an area of 3,300 square meters, was built on the site of Tongyi Public Textile Factory by Hangzhou Canal Group in 2010 and open to the public in May, 2011. In 2015, a transformation was conducted in the pavilion to integrate workmanship demonstration with marketing operation.
More than 30 industrial art masters and inheritors of intangible cultural heritage are attracted to the pavilion to showcase 21 kinds of craftsmanship, including stone carving, textile printing, bamboo chopsticks, and silk umbrella.
The skilled craftsmen demonstrate the traditional industrial arts on the spot allowing visitors to get a concrete understanding of the skills. They also take on apprentices or interact with audiences to stimulate their enthusiasm for craftsmanship. The pavilion also arranged touring exhibitions and developed creative designs for traditional manual crafts to meet the market’s demands.
The pavilion was a reception venue of the G20 Hangzhou Summit in 2016 and received foreign media groups and the delegation of First Lady of Turkey.
