DRC President leads delegation to visit Cuba, Peru and Panama

Li Wei, President of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), led a delegation to Cuba, Peru and Panama to hold discussions on the Belt and Road Initiative in Latin America from May 15 to 25.

During the visit, Li met with over 10 government officials at or above the ministerial level. He attended 21 events including meetings, seminars, and lectures, and signed two cooperation documents.

During his stay in Cuba, Li met with Cuban officials, including Vice Presidents of the Cuban Council of State Ramiro Valdés and Ines Maria Chapman, and talked about Cuba’s advantages in participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. Li introduced China's reform and opening-up policy in the past 40 years. He held discussions with think tanks of Cuba, and signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Cuban State and Government Cadre College. The delegation also conducted a field survey at Mariel's Special Economic Zone.

During his stay in Peru, Li held talks with Peru’s officials and learned about the strategies and policies of economic and social development in Peru and Latin American countries. They discussed about cooperation opportunities and challenges faced by China and Latin American countries in pushing forward the Belt and Road Initiative.

Li attended the Seminar on China and Latin America Jointly Building the Belt and Road and delivered a keynote speech. He talked about extending the Belt and Road Initiative to Latin America with officials from 10 government departments of Peru and experts from universities and think tanks.

During his stay in Panama, Li exchanged views on Panama participating in the Belt and Road Initiative with the country's officials.

Li also delivered a report on macroeconomic situation for the Chinese embassy in Panama and representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises.

He attended seminars with Chinese-funded enterprises in Cuba, Peru, and Panama respectively.
