Abstract:   

The production capacity of meat in China is expanding, due to a growing demand, an improving animal raising industry and stronger technical support to production. A strong regional pattern can be seen in meat production in China. The regional distribution of consumption closely follows production. Major production areas are at the same time major consumption areas; localities enjoying high income are also major meat consumption areas. The gap in meat consumption between the countryside and cities is shrinking; the countryside has the great potential in consuming more meat. The high income groups consume more meat with higher quality. Meat consumption in China is in a steady growing phase.
