DRC leader on European visit

Li Wei, minister of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), took a delegation to Germany, Poland and the UK, from June 30 to July 9, to do a survey of the new industrial revolution, scientific and technological innovation, and new energy policies in those countries.

In Germany, the delegates met with Stefan Kapferer, State Secretary of the Economic Affairs and Energy Ministry, Joe Kaeser, CEO of Siemens, and Peter Tyroller, head of Bosch Asia Pacific, and visited Siemens' digital factory and Bosch's R&D center, and took part in symposiums with National Academy of Science and Engineering personnel and representatives of Chinese enterprises in Germany.

In Poland, they spoke with Olgierd Dziekoński, State Secretary the Office of the President, Andrzej Dycha, State Undersecretary of Economy, Artur Radziwill, State Undersecretary of the Finance Ministry, Artur Nowak-Far, State Undersecretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and Slawomir Majman, president of the board of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency.

In the UK, Li addressed a gathering at the Chatham House, speaking on energy technology innovation, and spoke at the opening ceremony of a Chinese entrepreneur training class. He also met with David Willetts, minister for universities and science, and Edward Davey, Secretary of State for energy and climate change, and signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding with Robin Niblett, director of Chatham House.

The delegation took part in a Sino-UK Innovation Roundtable Seminar held at Chatham House, then met with Ben van Beurden, the CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, and attended a seminar on natural gas development strategy, a cooperative research program of DRC and Shell.

The delegation had an invitation from Germany's Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Poland's Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Britain's Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House, and said that the results were very productive in increasing communications and cooperation with German, Polish and UK institutions.
