On Dec 2, a group of experts led by Ye Xingqing, director-general of the Research Department of Rural Economy at the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), paid a field visit to Hengshan county to push forward land reform.
The group visited several construction sites in Xuanzhou town and did research on the local situation of land contracts. Ye was impressed by the tidy homes owned by farmers and the markets, praising local achievements in planning and construction. In the symposium, the group studied the situation of rural land reform in Hengshan county through reports by local officials.
According to Ye, the field visit helped the group learn about complexities in land registration and the unequal distribution of rural collective-owned land for commercial construction. For follow-ups, the investigating group will make recommendations to land reform.
