Young Scientists Forum on Neural Biophysics held in Jinan

The 26th Youth Committee Meeting of the Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences and the Second Young Scientists Forum on Neural Biophysics were held in Jinan, Shandong province, from Dec 15 to 16.

Xue Tian, vice-president of the Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences (CAPS), president of the Neurobiophysics Academic Subgroup of the Biophysical Society of China (BSC) and principal assistant at the University of Science and Technology of China, made an opening speech at the event. 

He highlighted the collaborative efforts between the CAPS youth committee and the BSC Neurobiophysics Academic Subgroup, emphasizing the goal of promoting interdisciplinary academic exchanges and fostering collaborations among scholars to contribute to the development of life sciences in China.

Yu Xiao, vice-president of the BSC Neurobiophysics Academic Subgroup and vice-dean of the School of Basic Medical Science at Shandong University, provided insight into the current status, layout and prospects of the integration of basic medicine and life sciences at her university. 

She expressed hope that the forum would facilitate cross-disciplinary exchanges and boost the integration of research strengths from different societies and disciplines to yield innovative research outcomes.

The academic report session featured several captivating presentations by members of the BSC Neurobiophysics Academic Subgroup. Topics included the molecular mechanisms, physiological functions and targeted drugs related to cell autophagy, vermal cerebellum interneuron selectively encoding uphill and downhill locomotion during ramp walking, a closed ACC-VTA-ACC feedback loop mediating the persistence of neuropathic pain, the function of ALS-linked C9orf72 complex, the mechanism maintaining cerebral microvascular homeostasis, and the role and mechanism of the thalamic reticular nucleus in mediating social memory. 

Jointly hosted by the CAPS, the BSC and the Department of Science and Technology Management at Shandong University, the academic events brought together renowned young experts and scholars in the field of life sciences in China. 

They provided a high-quality platform for academic exchanges and interdisciplinary collaborations, fostering in-depth communication and cooperation within the domestic life sciences community.
