Biography

1997 - 2001 Nanjing University, bachelor of science in biophysics

2001 - 2006 Tsinghua University, PhD in biophysics

2006 - now Principal investigator, Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Chief scientist and director, Center for Biological Imaging, IBP, CAS, Beijing, China.

2018.01 - now Young scholar of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences

Sun's research interests are mainly related to the structures and functions of biological macromolecules, including membrane proteins and supra macromolecular assemblies.

The aim of Sun's research group is to combine various structural research approaches (mainly crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy) -- as well as developing new methodologies to determine the architecture of the biological system, in vitro and in vivo, from nano-scale to meso-scale. In the next five years, his group will focus on molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial and bio-membrane dynamics; the structure and function of supra macromolecular assembly; and methodology development orientating to biological imaging.

Su Fei said: "The BSC was like a cradle for me to grow up. In addition to providing me with a very good opportunity to learn from peers and predecessors, the BSC also gave me the opportunity to show my academic ideas and research results to the vast number of biophysical peers, which contributed to my growth in the academic field."
