Sydney university research team recruits doctoral candidates

Updated: 2020-05-26

Dr Lining (Arnold) Ju is a tenured assistant professor and senior lecturer from the University of Sydney in Australia. His research team is mainly focused on the development of single-molecule biomechanics, optoelectronic instruments, microfluidics, single-cell biological detection technology and cross-scientific research in cardiovascular and neurological health and disease.

In addition, there is a strong focus on platform implementation, including real-time monitoring of membrane protein receptor dynamics, conformational changes and simultaneous acquisition of force spectrums and calcium signals from living cells.

Currently, his research group is recruiting doctoral candidates from 2020-21. The successful candidates will secure a full scholarship which includes living expenses of A$35,000 ($23,018.74) per year and tuition fees of A$50,000 per year funded by ARC Discovery Project and they will conduct doctoral research for three to four years.

Qualifications:

Having graduated from C9 or other 211/985 colleges and universities in China (those who have obtained both bachelor's degree and master's degree from the aforementioned universities are preferred) -- in biomedical engineering, biophysics, biomechanics, engineering mechanics, mechanical engineering, optics and other related majors – the group is seeking applicants with master degrees or bachelor degrees with excellent performances during their studies.

They must possess an IELTS score of 6.5 (no less than 6 points for a single item) or a TOEFL score of 92 (no less than 20 points for a single item). Candidates can also apply in advance, then prepare for the English exam, submitting the scholarship application and English scores at the same time.

Priority will be given to those who have published SCI academic papers and have certain experience in scientific research. Bachelor graduates should have at least one year of experience as scientific research assistants, during which time they should meet the admission requirements for foreign direct admissions for a PhD program and prepare their doctoral research plan.

Preferred candidates will have a deep understanding of hematology, cardiovascular biology and a strong interest in the study and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Proficient in reading English literature, strong learning ability, able to write English material.

Good innovation ability, hands-on ability, execution ability, communications ability and team spirit.

Research topic orientations:

Develop point-of-care microfluidic technologies for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Develop single-cell mechanobiological methods for discovering molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular and neuronal mechanical force sensing.

Develop single-molecule and super-resolution microscopy imaging technologies in the cardiovascular disease.

Application method:

Applicants should send their English resumes, past research content, future research plans and research interests, published articles, three letters of recommendation (or the names and contact details of the referees) and other relevant information that can prove their competence to the following email address: arnold.ju@sydney.edu.au
