The 1st Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Metabolomics and the International Symposium on Metabolomics 2019 concluded on April 21 in Shanghai.

Nearly 1,000 scientific researchers from more than 100 institutions in six countries attended the event.

The conference was hosted by the Metabolomics Subgroup of the Biological Society of China (BSC) and organized by Fudan University’s Human Phenome Institute. It received support from the School of Life Sciences of Fudan University, the State Key Laboratory of Genetic Engineering of Fudan University, the Collaborative Innovation Center of Genetics and Development, and three other institutions.

Around 80 researchers delivered reports on metabolomics technology and applications. Sub-topics included pharmacometabolomics, molecular phenomics, and cancer metabolomics.

The advancement of technology has supported the development of metabolomics, said Wang Jiucun, vice-president of Fudan University’s Human Phenome Institute, during her opening remarks.

She said that Fudan University has launched the International Human Phenome Project to advance research on human phenomes. The first phrase of the project was recognized as a major Shanghai project and earned 557 million yuan ($82.71 million) in financial support, she added.

Liu Tiemin, deputy sectary-general of BSC, hopes that the Metabolomics Subgroup of BSC will attract more experts and help formulate national standards for the metabolomics sector at the conference.

Tang Huiru, president of the Metabolomics Subgroup of BSC, announced the group's annual goals and said that the group will continue making efforts to promote exchanges in education and science.

The Metabolomics Subgroup of BSC was established last July to support the development of the metabolomics sector in China.
