Awards given for contributions to cryo-electronic microscopy

The Cryo-electron Microscopy Academic Subgroup of Biophysical Society of China honored three scientists for their contributions to the field of cryo-electronic microscopy (cryo-EM) at Shanghai Tech University on Nov 2, 2017.

Zhou Hongtao, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles hosted the awards ceremony.

Sui Senfang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Tsinghua University was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering efforts in developing cryo-EM in China, and for training people in the area.

Sun Fei, a professor at the Institute of Biophysics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, won the Outstanding Contribution Award for his contributions to the application and promotion of cryo-EM.

And Lei Jianlin, a professor at Tsinghua University was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award for his efforts in establishing a platform to promote cryo-EM. He is also the head of the cryo-EM platform at the National Center for Protein Science at Tsinghua University.

The three award winners were invited to make academic reports during the ceremony.

The awards, established in 2017, are biennial prizes dedicated to scientists who make breakthroughs in the research, application, and promotion of cryo-EM in China. And each winner receives a cash prize up to 30,000 yuan ($4,732).
