Russian delegation visits Beijing E-Town autonomous driving zone
A delegation from Russia has recently visited the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) and toured the Innovation Operation Center of the high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone.
During the visit, the delegation experienced firsthand the cutting-edge practices of intelligent connected transportation.
Inside the exhibition hall of the Innovation Operation Center, the Russian guests learned about the demonstration zone, autonomous driving vehicle models and smart streetlights via dynamic data screens, Since its launch in September 2020, the demonstration zone has established a city-level experimental platform with five major systems: "vehicle, road, cloud, network, and map". It has issued 931 autonomous driving test licenses to 34 companies, with the total mileage of vehicle road tests exceeding 35 million kilometers.
Later, they boarded an intelligent connected passenger bus for a test ride experience and observed in real-time the vehicle's response mechanisms to pedestrians, non-motorized vehicles, and unexpected situations through the visual interactive screen inside the bus.
After witnessing the bus smoothly navigate consecutive curves without driver intervention, a member of the delegation said, "The vehicle's adaptive handling is close to perfect.
"This vehicle-road coordination model provides a reference for intelligent transportation in other regions."
Bilateral discussions focused on autonomous driving technology research and development, expanding application scenarios, and formulating policies and regulations.
Members of the delegation said Russia is also actively exploring intelligent transportation and their visit had provided valuable opportunities for an exchange of ideas. They said they hoped to enhance cooperation to promote the globalization of autonomous driving technology.
