Siberian gull rests in Beijing E-Town

Updated: 2025-03-26

As the weather warms up, a Siberian gull was recently spotted in Nanhaizi Park, Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town).

The Siberian gull is a large water bird mainly breeding in northern Russia and northern Siberia. Every autumn, they embark on a long migration journey to warmer regions for wintering.

The Siberian gulls mainly inhabit lakes, reservoirs, and marshlands with gentle water flow and abundant aquatic plants, having very high requirements for their habitat. Only clear, clean, and wide water bodies with abundant food resources can provide a good resting environment for them.

The Siberian gull that appeared in Nanhaizi Park has affirmed the superior ecological environment of Beijing E-Town, and demonstrated the remarkable achievements in ecological protection and construction in the area.

As of January 2025, the total number of bird species in Beijing E-Town had increased to 321, representing over 60 percent of the total number of bird species in Beijing.

Rare bird species such as black stork, oriental stork, and white-tailed sea eagle have also been spotted in the area.
