Self-developed intelligent hip joint surgical robot of E-Town-based company hits the market

Updated: 2024-11-08

NAVIplasty®, an intelligent hip joint surgical robot independently developed by Longwood Valley, an enterprise in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town), obtained the Class III medical device registration certificate issued by the National Medical Products Administration and officially entered the market.

Dr. Zhang Yiling, chairman of Longwood Valley, said, "This is the fourth registration certificate obtained by Longwood Valley within two months, marking a significant breakthrough in promoting orthopedic artificial intelligence and surgical robotics 'made in China', enabling domestically produced robots to benefit more joint procedures and patients, and driving joint orthopedic surgery towards a more minimally invasive, intelligent and precise era."

Total hip arthroplasty is widely recognized as the most effective treatment for end-stage hip joint diseases. It involves removing the damaged parts inside the joint and replacing them with artificial prostheses to treat the disorder, restore joint function and alleviate pain.

Starting from clinical needs, Longwood Valley has collaborated with authoritative orthopedic experts from domestic medical institutions to transform its extensive surgical experience into standardized algorithms. By utilizing artificial intelligence and deep learning technology, it has developed this Chinese original solution for hip joint replacement — the NAVIplasty® intelligent hip joint surgical robot.

NAVIplasty® has independently developed highly dexterous lightweight robotic arm and core technologies, such as AI intelligent planning and navigation algorithms that enable NAVIplasty® to reduce the risk of dislocation or surgical failure caused by poor positioning of the acetabular cup during hip joint replacement. This results in less surgical trauma, a safer procedure, faster patient recovery and shorter hospital stays.

During surgery, NAVIplasty® can adjust the planning in real-time based on the actual conditions in the operating room, ensuring its stability and suitability for the patient's specific anatomy.

The development of NAVIplasty® further solidifies Longwood Valley’s leading position in orthopedic artificial intelligence and surgical robotics technology, continuing to make significant contributions to the development of orthopedic medical care in China and globally.
