Boao Forum for Asia holds global health conference in Beijing

The Boao Forum for Asia held its third conference on global health in Beijing last week. The conference was jointly hosted by the Boao Forum and Beijing's municipal government. 

The theme of the conference was "Health Everywhere – The Era of Sustainable Development 2030", with three main topics: "Health in All Policies", "Achieving Universal Health Coverage" and "Innovation for Health".

The conference included more than 20 sub-forums, round tables and salons, with diverse and rich content and broad and diverse participation. The forum delved into issues such as global health governance, the development of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, technological innovation empowerment and the integration of the health industry, with participants sharing experiences, building consensus and promoting cooperation.

Among those who attended the conference were Ban Ki-moon, chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia and former UN secretary-general; Zhang Jun, secretary-general of the Boao Forum; Danilo Türk, former president of Slovenia; Jenny Shipley, former prime minister of New Zealand; and Margaret Chan, who chaired proceedings.

In all, nearly a thousand delegates attended the conference, including representatives from the World Health Organization, the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and several ambassadors to China.

The Boao Forum for Asia regularly holds conferences to look at development from a health perspective, valuing both the process and the purpose of development, promoting overall economic and social development, as well as the development of individuals, and putting people-centered development ideas into practice.
