Number of foreign-funded R&D centers in Beijing E-Town increases to 46

Updated: 2024-07-16

A total of 43 companies have joined the list of recognized foreign-funded Research & Development centers in Beijing.

Among those recognized in the Chinese capital's 5th batch of foreign-funded R&D centers are 21 companies from Beijing E-Town, including Pall (China), TPV Display Technology (China) and Beijing SenseTime Technology.

The total number of foreign-funded R&D centers in Beijing has now reached 149, with 46 located in Beijing E-Town alone, accounting for around one-third of the city's total.

The newly-recognized enterprises in E-Town come primarily from industries such as new-generation information technology, biotechnology and big health, automotive technology, and intelligent manufacturing.

As a key cooperation project between China and Cuba in the biopharmaceutical field, Biotech Pharma (BPL) relied on excellent technical resources and locational advantages to complete the industrialization of the first domestically-produced humanized monoclonal antibody, Nimotuzumab, in 2008.

One of the newly-recognized enterprises, Beijing Dongfang Baitai Biotechnology, has built a world-class industrialization technology platform focused on original antibody medicines and new therapeutic vaccines, covering the entire R&D and production process.

Beijing E-Town provides an award of 2 million yuan ($275,485.80) for foreign-funded R&D centers that are recognized by the municipal industry authorities.

Additionally, for those authorized by the parent company as global R&D centers of multinational corporations, with total cumulative R&D investment not less than $10 million and the previous year's R&D investment accounting for no less than 10 percent of the parent company's global R&D investment, an additional recognition reward of 3 million yuan can be granted.

Beijing E-Town has provided a total of 50 million yuan in financial support to 25 foreign-funded R&D centers recognized by the city over the past four batches, allocated over a 3-year period, with 20 million yuan distributed to the enterprises to date.
