Beijing E-Town inaugurates national medical device innovation service station
Following the establishment of the municipal-level drug and medical device innovation service station, the National Medical Device Innovation Service Station was unveiled on Dec 12 during the Beijing Medical Device Innovation Development Conference held in Beijing E-Town.
Gathering innovative medical device enterprises
Behind this initiative lies the strong pull of the biotechnology and big health industry in Beijing E-Town.
According to statistics, in 2022, the industrial output value of the biopharmaceutical industry in Beijing E-Town reached nearly 90 billion yuan ($12.52 billion), accounting for a significant portion of Beijing's overall industrial output.
Focusing on the innovative medical device sector, the medical device industry in Beijing is characterized by its strong innovation and development capabilities, forming a high-end medical device industry cluster with top-notch research and development capabilities and a complete regional industrial chain.
To promote collaboration, the conference organized representatives from seven enterprises in five medical device sub-sectors, including imaging equipment and surgical robots, to exchange ideas and discuss innovations.
Addressing corporate challenges on the doorstep
For enterprises, accelerating the R&D and market launch of innovative medical device products involves key processes such as regulatory evaluation services.
Before the unveiling ceremony, the Beijing Medicine and Medical Device Innovation Service Station (E-Town Station) had already explored innovative service paths for local enterprises.
Since its inauguration on May 29 of this year, E-Town Station has provided one-stop services for enterprises, including personnel training, customized consultations, pre-evaluation services, research projects, platform building, and brand building.
As of Dec 12, E-Town Station has served 200 companies, addressing 275 of their questions through on-site and online consultations.
In addition to E-Town Station, Beijing E-Town has facilitated the relocation and operation of four of the six centers of the National Medical Products Administration.
Stepping up the construction of a global industry highland for the "intelligent manufacturing of new medicines"
To create a favorable industrial ecosystem, Beijing E-Town has employed a combination of policies and services.
Notably, the area has issued an action plan for accelerating the construction of a global "intelligent manufacturing of new medicines" industry hub, establishing a policy system with a "1+N" structure.
Special policies have been released for two key tracks, including high-end medical equipment, to support industrial development.
With comprehensive support, Beijing E-Town is home to more than 410 medical device companies.
Since the issuance of the "Innovative Medical Device Special Approval Procedure (Trial)" in 2014, 14 innovative medical devices in the area have received special approval from the National Medical Products Administration, accounting for 22.5 percent of Beijing's total innovative medical device approvals.
