China's private commercial aerospace industry makes its debut

Updated: 2023-06-30

Galactic Energy, CAS Space and other aerospace companies in Beijing E-Town showcased their flagship products at the 54th Paris International Air and Space Exhibition on June 19.

This marks the first time that China's private commercial aerospace industry has participated in the Paris Air Show.

"The Ceres-1 light small-size carrier rocket has already been successfully launched five times in a row. It is the first commercial rocket in China to achieve a 'five for five' consecutive success. It will perform its sixth mission next month," said a representative from Galactic Energy.

In addition to showcasing the Ceres-1 light small-size carrier rocket model at the Paris Air Show, Galactic Energy also brought Palls-1, the company's first liquid carrier rocket model scheduled to launch next year, and the Welkin engine, the first domestically developed high-thrust, deep-variable-thrust liquid oxygen-kerosene engine using a pintle injector technology.

Recently, Palls-1 completed its interstage separation test, verifying the correctness of the interstage separation scheme. It will subsequently undergo around 60 large-scale ground experiments. The Welkin engine features several domestically pioneered technologies, including a multi-swirl cone-shaped gas generator with multiple recirculation paths, a coaxial dual-inlet turbo pump, and a multifunctional integrated combination valve.

CAS Space also brought its Kinetica 1 rocket, which participated in its second launch on June 7, successfully placing 26 satellites into the designated orbit.

Kinetica 1 is the largest solid-fueled carrier rocket in China, with a liftoff weight of 135 tons, a liftoff thrust of 200 tons, a total length of 30 meters, a core stage diameter of 2.65 meters, and a sun-synchronous orbit carrying capacity of 1,500 kilograms at 500 kilometers.

The rocket has achieved breakthroughs in six major key technologies and has utilized 13 technologies for the first time domestically, enriching China's spectrum of solid-fueled carrier rocket launch capabilities.

With the Ceres-1's "five for five" consecutive success and the Kinetica 1's "26 satellites in one launch," aerospace companies in Beijing E-Town showcased the strong development of the commercial aerospace industry at the Paris Air Show.

In the future, as Beijing E-Town continues to engage in the commercial aerospace industry, more and more enterprises will represent China's aerospace sector on the international stage.
