Hardworking BDA workers see fruitful results
Spring Festival is a time for family reunions. But in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA), there are people who stay on duty during the holiday.
On Chinese New Year's Eve, SMC (China) Co., Ltd. is filled with the sound of people and machines working, whether it's in the processing workshop or the assembly workshop.
"This year, during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, we have arranged for four days of overtime work, and the overtime attendance rate of front-line workers has exceeded 80 percent. The production target can be achieved ahead of schedule," said Wei Dongqing, deputy general manager of SMC.
Since the beginning of this year, domestic and overseas demand for components, such as SMC's pneumatic components, has grown and orders have increased compared with previous years.
In particular, the number of overseas orders increased by 100 percent compared with the same period last year.
With the increase in the number of orders, the production capacity of SMC increased simultaneously. Its production capacity in February is expected to reach 1.3 million components, an increase of 20 percent over the same period last year.
In response to the BDA's call to avoid leaving Beijing if not absolutely necessary, more than 80 percent of the company’s non-Beijing employees stayed in the city this year to celebrate Chinese New Year.

On Chinese New Year's Eve, workers were still busy on the production line of Beijing Kinghawk Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.
According to the company's production plans, weekly shipments were set at about 2 million copies, and during the period before Spring Festival, the daily shipment reached 1 million copies.
Although inventory was sufficient, staff members of Jinhao Pharmaceutical were still on standby during Spring Festival. If demand for test kits were to increase, all staff would be on duty within 12 hours for emergency production.
"As long as patients need it, we will provide services as soon as possible," said Tang Jianzhong, director of the medical affairs department of Hugo Biotech (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
As a high-tech enterprise focusing on metagenome next-generation sequencing technology (mNGS), Hugo Biotech remained ready to inspect samples at any time during the holiday.
