Beijing High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone to start phase 3.0 construction
"After preliminary work, the construction of the second phase of the high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone in Beijing is coming to an end. This year, the demonstration zone will start construction of its third phase and expand to a larger area in Beijing," said Kong Lei, deputy director of the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA) Administrative Committee, at the 17th Super Car Forum in 2021.
To break through restrictions imposed by original road testing policies for intelligent-connected vehicles, the city set up the Beijing ICV Policy Pilot Zone to promote the testing of relevant policies.
After preliminary work, the demonstration area has initially achieved large-scale testing of high-level autonomous vehicles, built a basic cloud control platform with a unified database, dedicated communication network and cutting-edge dynamic map platform, and realized the integration of vehicles and road data.
The demonstration zone has also formed a relatively fixed ICV investment team with several capital institutions, explored suitable working mechanisms and models, and used state-owned background capital as a tool to leverage social capital.
The BDA, as the base of the demonstration zone, has explored ICVs in great detail.
Currently, the construction of the first stage of the demonstration area has been completed, with 12.1 km of intelligent connected urban roads and 10 kilometers of expressways.
In the second phase, an intelligent connected road covering 60 square kilometers in the core area of the BDA will be built.
Overall construction is drawing to a close, and joint commissioning and testing are under way. This year, the demonstration zone will start the third phase of construction.
