Chinese e-commerce giant JD reported its accumulated sales rose 28.58 percent year-on-year to 349.1 billion yuan ($54.6 billion) during the Singles Day shopping carnival, which kicked off at 8 pm on Oct 31.

JD said the transaction volume of 31 brands surpassed 1 billion yuan during the shopping spree, with Apple Inc’s products surpassing 10 billion yuan.

The turnover of 43,276 merchants surged more than 200 percent year-on-year, while the number of small and medium-sized brands increased over four times on a yearly basis.

Through the use of new energy vehicles, solar power systems and recyclable packages, JD also reduced carbon emissions by 26,000 metric tons compared with last year. For example, recyclable packages were used 11.35 million times during the promotion this year.

In addition, users from lower-tier markets accounted for 77 percent of all users for this year’s Singles Day shopping spree, JD added. The company witnessed rapid growth of consumption from these markets in the categories of home appliances, medicine and home decoration.

During this promotional gala, JD Logistics applied nearly 400 autonomous delivery vehicles in more than 25 cities in China, delivering 200 percent more orders compared with the same period last year.
