BDA launches self-driving vehicle testing

Beijing E-Town Innovation Release hosted by the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) Working Committee held a regular press conference on Oct 15. 

The Beijing Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) policy pilot zone officially launched self-driving vehicle testing. 

Baidu and Pony.ai were chosen to receive the first unmanned road test notices in the policy pilot zone for ICVs in Beijing. 

The first unmanned test roads to be opened include the 20 square kilometers of the BDA and over 100 kilometers of urban roads.

The BDA will build a dual assessment system for closed site testing and network security testing.

In each self-driving testing stage, the testing time and area are also limited. 

In addition to the introduction of MPI, system redundancy design, minimum risk operation and other indicators that measure a company's technical level, a supervision mechanism for online inspection and regular offline checks was also established.
