At the meeting, Wang Shaofeng, secretary of the Working Committee of the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA), gave a keynote speech titled "Practicing the Concept of Ecological Civilization Development and Exploring the Green Development Path of "Waste-free City"".

In his speech, Wang remarked that in the two years since the BDA has been piloting a "waste-free city", various parks have been upgraded with ecological integration.

The intensity of industrial solid waste generation has decreased by 33 percent, reaching the international advanced level; the generation of general industrial solid waste has decreased by 11 percent, and the comprehensive utilization rate has remained stable at 96 percent, which is the leading domestic level; the generation of industrial hazardous waste has decreased by 10 percent, and the comprehensive utilization rate amounts to 65 percent, an increase of 8 percentage points.

Furthermore, the BDA used waste tires to pave "green roads" with a total mileage of over 120 kilometers, the Nanhaizi Park has built some unique landscapes from construction waste, and the 117 hectares of Binhe Park landscape belt along the Liangshui River also came from building waste. These methods have accumulatively consumed 153,000 cubic meters of construction waste.
