The Industry Application Innovation Forum of the 2021 World 5G Convention announced the top 10 application cases of 5G in China on Aug 31.

These top 10 cases have stood out from 206 declared projects in 25 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, covering industries like industrial internet, smart healthcare, as well as smart transportation.

There are currently more than 50,000 5G base stations in Beijing. The city is expected to realize full 5G applications coverage around 2023, while the revenue of its 5G industry is estimated to reach 200 billion yuan ($30.94 billion) next year.

As one of the 10 application cases, Sany Heavy Industry Park has reduced its energy consumption by 8 percent to more than 10 percent a year after achieving full 5G coverage in 2019, saving hundreds of millions of dollars each year.

5G has also been applied in the healthcare and transportation industries.

In an ambulance racing to the hospital, a doctor wearing AI glasses and with an AI voice pen attached in his shirt pocket is scanning the patient's wristband. A moment later, the patient's identity, past medical history, and health files are transmitted to the expert team in the hospital through the monitor. While this may seem like a scene from a science fiction movie, it was actually an example of 5G being applied in a hospital in Jiangxi province.

In addition, Canton Tower Station Guangzhou Metro is different from many domestic subway stations. 

The security inspector there no longer needs to stare at a computer screen. Instead, there are five smart security check machines. 

Guangzhou Tower Station has deployed 5G smart customer services, 5G smart security inspection, and other applications, which is expected to reduce the on-site customer service staff in the station hall by over 30 percent.

Also selected as China's top 10 5G application cases were the 5G Digital Twin Transparent Factory of Yuxi Xinxing Steel, the 5G Smart Mine of Lu'an Chemical Group's Xinyuan Coal Mine in Shanxi province, the 5G Smart Pier of Qingdao Port, the Global 5G Smart Manufacturing Base of Binjiang district in Nanjing province, the 5G smart grid of Southern Power Grid in Guangdong province, 5G-based remote fundus laser surgery, as well as the 5G demonstration application township of Tonglu Eshan She ethnic group.
