Fragrance of books spreads in BDA

Updated: 2021-05-08

No matter where you are in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA), you can find a comfortable and quiet space for reading nearby.

If you take the core area of BDA as the center and connect the scattered reading points, the pattern is like a huge umbrella.

Behind the blooming of various libraries, reading spaces, and branded bookstores in the ZIBE, is the multi-year literacy-rich history of the BDA.

Currently, the BDA has formed such activities as book circulation, shared reading sessions, and parent-child reading, and has cultivated the Beijing Yizhuang Reading Alliance, corporate reading clubs, and community recitation groups.

According to statistics, there were more than 200 activities in the BDA's National Reading Season in 2020 alone.

Among them, the five-month parent-child reading series "Scent of Books·Walk with Me", invited 25 experts in the reading and publishing industry, held 26 offline activities with tens of thousands of participants, and benefited 300+ families.

The activities were also held online 12 times, leading to dissemination of video content exceeding 120 minutes, and the sharing of various online videos and graphic information more than 200,000 times.

The number of brick-and-mortar bookstores per 10,000 people in the BDA has risen from less than 0.4 to 0.8.

Reading space has not only become a standard feature in the community, but has also taken root in many enterprises and industrial parks.

In the BDA branch library SEED Space, which was established in April 2019, employees can not only read good books but can also use the huge online data and information resources to expand their knowledge and improve their abilities, as well as exchange views and share experience through the online community "Blue Valley Reading Club" and an offline reading salon.
