Recently, the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA) announced its first quarter economic data.

According to the data, the total output value of industries above designated size reached 139.8 billion yuan ($21.55 billion), a year-on-year increase of 47.4 percent, and the growth rate of industrial production returned to its level before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In line with the increase in total industrial output value, the number of intellectual property rights also increased rapidly. 

From January to February this year, enterprises in BDA obtained 1,284 patent authorizations, a year-on-year increase of 65.89 percent, including 329 invention patents, a year-on-year increase of 80.77 percent. 

A total of 58 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications were filed, a year-on-year increase of 31.82 percent. 

As of the end of February 2021, enterprises in the BDA had 9,528 valid invention patents.

In recent years, the BDA has focused on areas such as integrated circuits, new displays, smart manufacturing and biomedicine, and has offered enterprises beneficial policies and encouraged them to increase R&D investment.

At the end of 2021, Beijing Jingyi Automation Equipment, a leading Chinese semiconductor ancillary equipment R&D and manufacturing company in the BDA, successfully transformed four invention patents obtained by overcoming technical problems in various fields into products.

Under the guidance of the BDA, BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. also invested 9.442 billion yuan in R&D last year, a year-on-year increase of 7.93 percent. 

In the 2020 global international patent application rankings published by the World Intellectual Property Organization, BOE ranked seventh with 1892 PCT patents. 

This has been BOE's ranking in the top ten global PCT patent applications for five consecutive years.
